BREEDERS OF IOWA BRED HORSES AND DOGS
Posted by admin on Friday, July 23 @ 15:37:44 CDT (116 reads)
DES MOINES – A computer and protective case has been stolen from a locked state vehicle of an Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship employee. This theft has placed at risk the personal information of Iowans that are participating in the Department’s Horse and Dog Breeding Program. Through this program the Department provides financial awards to breeders of successful Iowa born racing greyhounds and racehorses at the close of each racing season.
On Thursday, July 22, the state vehicle used by an employee of the Department’s Horse and Dog Breeding Program was broken into in the State of Iowa parking ramp at the corner of Grand Avenue and Pennsylvania in Des Moines. While the computer did have an encryption protection, there is concern that unauthorized access could be gained to the names, address, phone number and social security number of 3,404 Iowans who participate in the Iowa Horse and Dog Breeding Program.

The veteran NMS Sweet Thing (River Bluffs-Brian Smith) showed the pups how to run a stakes race in winning the $60,000 Bluffs Run Open on July 3. “It can’t get much better than tonight,” said trainer Randy Montgomery, who has had several highlights over the years at Bluffs Run, including a win in last year’s Open with All-American Ten For Tee. “Greyhounds don’t win stakes races two years apart.”

PADDY O'PRADO WINS COLONIAL TURF CUP
Posted by admin on Sunday, June 20 @ 13:41:19 CDT (150 reads)
NEW KENT — — With a dramatic three-wide sweep around the far turn, favorite Paddy O'Prado ran away with the $500,000 Colonial Turf Cup (gr. II) on Saturday at Colonial Downs.
Under jockey Kent Desormeaux, the El Prado colt saved ground patiently down the backstretch through a a half mile in 48.42 led by Two Notch Road. Nearing the five sixteenths pole, the Dale Romans-trained colt was asked to increase his pace and overtook the lead while drifting in slightly in midstretch.
"Going down the backside, I didn't know if I had horse or not because he was just cantering along under a dangling rein," said Desormeaux. "I picked a spot to run him and thought, with his turn of foot, I could beat the horse that was in front of me on the outside just as long as he shortened up and picked up the line. I kissed at him, popped him on the shoulder, and we had him in two strides." The margin of victory for the 1 3/16 mile turf race was three lengths, with a final time of 1:54.20.
