    The pair only posted second place finishes but that was enough for the Boeckenstedt Kennelís Bocís Gasguzzier and the Hardison Kennelís No Big Deal to share the lead after the quarterfinal round in the qualifying for the $500,000 Iowa Breeders Classic at Bluffs Run.

    Gasguzzier, 44-13-11-6, broke sixth and rallied from fourth in the homestretch for his second in the Wednesday, Oct. 21, quarterfinals. Coupled with his wins in the first two rounds, Bocís Gasguzzier has 40 points.

    No Big Deal, 46-16-8-5, darn near had the points lead to himself but lost by a head in finishing second. Coupled with two wins and No Big Deal has 40 points.

    Beating out No Big Deal with the homestretch rally was Bocís Tony Romo (Boeckenstedt), 44-21-5-7. The win gives the $60,000 Open champion a boost in the points standings with 29. Still he will probably need a win in the semifinals for a berth in the championship race.

    The next four greyhounds in the points standings all won quarterfinal races to improved their lots.

    Third with 37.5 points is Jd Debutante (Seastrom-Lovely), 48-9-3-8. She hung onto an early lead for a half-length decision. Traffic in the backstretch did in Bocís Hank Jr (Boeckenstedt), 38-22-4-6, who struggled to a sixth place finish. He did have a couple of wins and with 33 points sits tied for seventh.

    Fourth with 36 points is the reigning Greyhound of the Year Bocís John Luke (Boeckenstedt), 27-8-3-2. Late work allowed John Luke to pound out a lengthís decision for his second straight win in the qualifiers.

    Two greyhounds are tied with 34 points after each won for the second straight time.

    Bocís Mericangal (Boeckenstedt), 39-8-7-2, went box-to-wire from the eight box, posting a seven length win, the largest margin of victory in the quarterfinals.

    Helpme Helpyou (Seastrom-Lovely), 30-12-3-2, pulled away for a three and a half length win in a time of 30.05 seconds for the 5-16 mile course, the fastest time for a quarterfinal race.

    Completing the top eight is two-time stakes winner Bocís Sailfish (Boeckenstedt), 41-17-9-7. He led early but fell to third in the race won by Bocís Tony Romo to end up with 33 points.

    Three greyhounds complete the semifinal field with 24 points.

    The three semifinal races will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24.

    The semifinalists (with kennels) and points earned:

    Bocís Gasguzzier (Boeckenstedt) 40; No Big Deal (Hardison) 40; Jd Debutante (Seastrom Ė Lovely) 37.5; Bocís John Luke (Boeckenstedt) 36; Bocís Mericangal (Boeckenstedt) 34; Helpme Helpyou (Seastrom Ė Lovely) 34; Bocís Hank Jr (Boeckenstedt) 33; Bocís Sailfish (Boeckenstedt) 33; Enjoying Life (Plum Creek) 31; Bocís Tony Romo (Boeckenstedt) 29; AtTheEndofTheDay (Plum Creek) 28; Dkís Firestar (Hardison) 28; Bocís Left Wing (Boeckenstedt) 27; Jd Bombshell (Seastrom Ė Lovely) 27;
