DUBUQUE, Iowa – Four rounds of qualifying for the championship and consolation races for the Iowa Breeders Cup at the Iowa Greyhound Park and it all came down to one point and one finish on Sunday, Oct. 18.

One point separated the last of the qualifiers for the championship race with the eight who made the consolation race. One finish separated the final consolation entry with the best of the non-qualifiers.

Xkt Dave Turin (XTREM Racing), 16-4-3-3, found himself last in the early going of the fourth round race and could rally only for a sixth place finish. However those two points gave him 42 for the four rounds and just enough to become the final qualifier.

Leading the charge into the championship race is Go Lucky Darla (Clayton Black). The 72-pounder, born Nov. 9, 2013 out of Nms Sweet Thing – Gobo Sox, chased through out and rallied late to take second place in her fourth round race. She put that with three straight wins in the earlier rounds for a total of 72 points.

Next on the list were two greyhounds with 65.

Pg Sudden Impact (XTREM Racing), 30-9-4-7, had been the third-round co-leader with Go Lucky Darla with the maximum of 60. In the fourth round, Impact broke last and settled for fourth for his 65.

Wild Bill Reeves (Copper Kettle), 25-12-1-5, picked up his third win in the qualifiers with a come-from-behind three and a half length decision for his 65 points.

Bs Rebel (Copper Kettle), 31-8-6-3, made a strong statement by winning in the last two rounds to finish with 60 points. Her fourth round win was going away by two lengths.

From among those four could possibly come the pre-race favorite for the championship race.

There is a drop in points to Superior Canard (Superior), 26-7-8-4. He came home second in the fourth round to finish with 46 points.

Rounding out the championship field are two greyhounds that collected 45 points each.

Ay’s Callie (Jackson Greyhounds), 28-6-4-3, had a first-turn collision and finished last in the fourth round. Xk Thisones Foru (XTREM Racing), 19-6-4-7, needed a win in the fourth round to qualify and got it. She broke seventh and did not lead until a homestretch rally gave her a length’s victory.

Heading up the consolation field will be Jd Unsung Hero (Stidham), 25-6-3-1. He ran well late, winning in the third round and running second in the fourth round for a total of 41 points.

Right behind Hero was Boc’s Circleking (Boeckenstedt), 29-5-8-1. He finished with 40 points and missed an opportunity with a fifth place finish in the fourth round.

Bcs Old Glory (Boeckenstedt), 31-13-3-7, finished third in the fourth round to end up with 39 points.

Classy Wolverine (Superior), 16-5-5-3, also had a third place finish in the fourth round and finished with 37 points. Joining Wolverine at 37 points is Hilco Kalvin (Superior), 16-2-4-3. He finished fourth in the fourth round.

    Two greyhounds had 36 points.
