    Greyhound Racing Iowa breeder Race IGP round #1 By Steve Sigafoose

    A victory by a recent stakes champion highlighted the first round of the Iowa Breeders Cupís at the Iowa Greyhound Park on Saturday, Oct. 3.

    Wild Bill Reeves (Copper Kettle), who took the $30,000 Dubuque Classic Stakes, wrapped up the IBCís first round with a five-length decision. The 74 pounder, born May 18, 2013 out of Flying Coal City Ė Kind Kelsey, moved to 22-10-1-5 on the campaign with the win.

    Hilco Supersonic (Superior), fresh off a runner-up finish in the $30,000 Future Star Stakes, won the opening race in the first round. The 62-pounder, born Oct. 7, 2013 out of Kc And All Ė Hilco V Star, went box-to-wire out of the five box to win by two and a half lengths. She had the first roundís best time of 30.68 seconds for the 5-16 mile course. Supersonic moved to 21-8-4-3.

    Three other Superior Kennel greyhounds picked up victories.

    Hilco Magnum, a littermate of Supersonicís, pounded out a six-length win, the biggest margin of victory in the first round. Magnum is 24-12-2-0.

    Oya Infrared, 24-7-2-3, slugged out an one length win after leading by four lengths in the early going.

    Superior Canard rallied from second in the homestretch to win by two lengths and improve his record to 23-7-6-4.

    The Jackson Greyhound Kennel had two winners in the first round.

    Ms Makenna, 25-5-7-3, pulled away nicely in the homestretch for a four-length victory.

    AJís Callie pulled away late to win by five lengths. Callie moved to 25-5-4-3.

    Bocís Richochet (Boeckenstedt), 23-5-1-7, came out of the box a 29-1 longshot and paid the patrons a nifty $60 for a $2 ticket after winning by three lengths.

    XTREM Racingís Pg Sudden Impact, 27-7-4-7, broke seventh but was able to rally, coming from second in the homestretch to win by two lengths.

    The Clayton Black Kennelís Go Lucky Darla, 18-7-2-2, was also a come-from-behind winner, running second early before taking charge in the homestretch for a narrow half-length win.

    The greyhounds face three more rounds of qualifying. The second round is set for Friday, Oct. 9. Round three breaks out of the boxes on Wednesday, Oct. 14 with the fourth round on Sunday, Oct. 18.

    The Iowa Breeders Cup championship race is on Saturday, Oct. 24.
