The Hardison Kennel duo of SH Avatar and Jet Force plus Plum Creek’s Pearls of Wisdom lead the charge as the 27th $500,000 Iowa Breeders Classic reached the halfway mark in qualifying at Bluffs Run.

The Saturday, Oct. 20, second round saw the trio become the only greyhounds in the field of 120 to win both first and second-round races to earn the maximum of 30 points.

SH Avatar was the most impressive. He broke from the three box to give a box-to-wire performance in winning by eight and a half length in the day’s best time of 29.74 seconds. Among the rivals toppled was defending IBC champion Angel Tree (Black). Pearls Of Wisdom was just as impressive. He broke sixth from the two box and didn’t take the lead until the far turn. He exploded in the homestretch for a nine-length win, the biggest margin of the second round. Among the rivals toppled was the Bluffs Run win leader, P’s Gibbs (Petzold), who fell in the first turn and never recovered.

Jet Force went box-to-wire from the five box and won pulling away by three and half lengths.

Five greyhounds are tied for third with 25 points, each having a win and a second.
Roc A By It’s E (Wilhite) rallied in the homestretch for a length’s win.
L’s Fray (Boeckenstedt) won by four lengths.
L’s Spidey (Boeckenstedt), Proven History (Mickim) and Hilltex Huey (Harlan Brothers) had second-round seconds.
Two Harlan Brothers greyhounds, Killer Dare and Killer Watch, come next with 23 points, after thirds in the second round.
Nine greyhounds tied with 14 points, the cut off point for the quarterfinals. Eight filled the last spots in the field of 48 with Seadon Enchanted (Bartley Corporation) losing out on the tiebreakers for the chance to advance.
The IBC quarterfinals are set for Wednesday, Oct. 24, after which the field will be cut to 24 greyhounds for the Saturday, Oct. 27, semifinals.
