    Ralph C. Bean

ONAWA, Iowa -- Ralph C. Bean, 71, of Onawa died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Don Collison and Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Ralph was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Clyde Hugh and Margaret (Rafferty) Bean. As a young child, he and his family moved to Onawa, where he attended school. He was in the sixth grade of school when he started working at Moore Bros. in Onawa and was employed there for more than 30 years. He and his brother, Dale, owned and operated B&B Roundup in Onawa and also Tyville Inc. greyhound operation for more than 25 years. Their best dog was Kercer which they owned  with Bob Hardison.

He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a very generous man and a friend to everyone. He loved giving children "candy nickels" when he was working at the grocery store and his kindness grew into "candy dollars" as the years passed. His kindness and giving will always be remembered. Everyone has a "Ralph Story" tucked in their memory. Family and friends were very important to him and he always looked forward to frequent family gatherings.
