Yo My Mediator put on a champion's show in rolling to a three-length triumph in the $60,000 Bluffs Run Championship Saturday evening at Bluffs Run.

Already the track's victory leader, Mediator gave a box-to-wire effort in posting his 19th win of the season.

"Praise the Lord," said Woodall Kennel trainer Mark Arno. "Any greyhound could have won this race, but he is the champion." Breaking from the eight box, Mediator won the rush to the first turn from Ctw Countn Money (Keeper-Red Rock), a promising pup that had won eight of his nine starts.

Simply put, no one challenged the steady 73-pounder and the trip down the homestretch proved just for the record.

"Mediator really had his hole," said Arno.

Yo My Mediator, 31-19-5-1 overall, had been a bit off his stride just prior to the stakes series.

"We just took him off," said Arno, "and gave him a little rest. He maybe was a little lucky to get into the final, but he should have won his last (the semifinal round) race (where he finished second)."

Like most, Arno "was worried about the seven (Ctw Countn Money). When Mediator got to the homestretch, I felt he would do it, but I won't say anything is safe."

What tickled the trainer almost as much was the third-place finish of his other entry, Yo My Sundance. Sandance had a terrible semifinal race, finishing last, in his first Grade A race. He simply did not look like he belonged in this field.

"I'm really proud of Yo My Sundance," said Arno. "He was underclassed in this field." A solid second was Kansas Venture of the Harlan Brothers Kennel. Venture was squeezed early back into last placed, then worked his way up, finally taking second late in the far turn. He did a job of getting through traffic.

"Getting squeezed was the key," said assistant trainer Darrell Holt. "He's a good finisher, but there is only so much trouble you can overcome."

Ctw Countn Money ran second, but was not challenging, until the far turn. Then he was passed twice in the late stages and settled for fourth. The pup was eighth in the semifinal after having to deal with a bunch of trouble. Now he must show he can respond to not having the early lead.

The veteran Your Lucky Charm (Neal Blake) ran fifth, 7 ½ lengths back, after first turn and far turn trouble.

Bow Spotlight (Blake), who went off as a slight favorite, finished sixth, 11 back, after early trouble.

Barts Dragon (Bartley) was never a factor in finishing seventh 12 back.

Hilltex Wildfire (Harlan) was running off the pace when he fell to finish last.
