Wednesday's first round found had 3 favorites winning and 5 falling to dissapointment.
Here is a race by race descripion by Bluffs Run's Racing Secretary Mark Pendgraft.

The first round has been completed and eight greyhounds have a huge first step in making history as being the champion of the $425,000 Iowa Breeders Classic, the richest state bred purse in history. All this is possible without an entry fee. Marias John (Rocksteady Eddie – System O Baby) owned by Christina Baird, racing for the Bean & Stout Inc. Kennel and is trained by Joe Osborne is a 660-yard runner. Today out of the six hole he broke late, but like any good long distance runner he closed hard as he headed down the home stretch. Marias John took over the lead just in time. Marias John clocked the fastest time of for the first round 30.56.

Rickyearl Walker (Dodgem By Design – Beez Girly Gate) owned by Charles Malone, racing for the Petzold Racing Kennel and trained by Jim Prescott broke on top and had to hold of pressure from Boc’s Ozzie. Rickyearl Walker has never been in grade “A” at Bluffs Run so we will have to see how he handles a tougher race.

Rompin Romeo (Dk’s Prime Time – Og Carrie) owned by Donna Puccio or Chuck Puccio, racing for the Boeckenstedt Kennel and trained by Matt Kremer is the current 660-yard $60,000 Champion. Today out of the six hole he broke late, but like any good long distance runner he closed hard as he headed down the home stretch. Rompin Romeo over took the lead from Devils Whisper as she faded to sixth.

Boc’s Moneymaker (Dominator – Contradiction) owned by B rad Boeckenstedt or Micky Hasty, racing for the Boeckenstedt Kennel and trained by Matt Kremer she broke fourth and went through the first turn mid-track. Then going into the far turn she set her sight on making money, as she passed the fading Slicker N Slik to pick up the win.

Rock N Cajun (Brett Lee – Icu Darlin Dog) owned by James Fischer or Denton Jones, racing for the Keeper Red Rock Kennel and trained by Tommy Jones went off as the favorite. Rock N Cajun broke on top out of the three hole and never looked back. It’s My Gift had a big rally but Rock N Cajun had too big of a lead.

Bullet Kruz (Kiowa Sweet Trey – Go Bee Gee Go) owned by Greg McLaughlin, racing for the Harlan Bros. Kennel and trained by Lori Fortune show up to race today. You never really know he feels like racing or not. Sometimes he will race like a bullet and others looks like he is out for a stroll. Today he raced like a bullet and held off pressure from six other greyhounds. This was one of the closest races in a long time, only a 2½ lengths difference from First thru Seventh place.

Boc’s Capncrunch (Dominator – Contradiction) owned by Brad Boeckenstedt or Micky Hasty, racing for the Boeckenstedt Kennel and is trained by Matt Kremer is the #2 on the Iowa Breeders Win list with 17. It was a good day for brother Boc’s Capncrunch and sister Boc’s Moneymaker. Boc’s Capncrunch went off as the favorite. He is known for breaking late and closing hard, however in his last two starts he has been in trouble. In the Seventh Race he broke like he normally does coming down the stretch he to took over the lead from kennel mate Boc’s Jamminjosh, to win by the biggest margin for the first round 6 lengths.

Accomplished (Craigie Whistler – Lonely Wind) owned by Mary Robinette, racing for the Plum Creek Kennel and trained by Ray Brownlee she went off as the favorite. Accomplished has been on a winning streak. She broke second while Dan Gable broke on top and was pulling away from the pack but if the finish line was at the tote board Dan Gable would have won, however Accomplished passed Dan Gable as if he were standing still. Accomplished is #1 on the Iowa Breeders Win list with 18.
